We are a group of professionals who have longstanding careers working with people in a variety of capacities, including coaching elite athletes, educational psychology and human resources.
We have come to realize that a good part of what we do in our respective settings is to help individuals and organizations realize their potential and experience lasting changes in overall competence within the framework of executive functioning.
We believe that executive functions are necessary for goal-directed behaviour in all areas of life. Executive functioning simply refers to a set of cognitive abilities that control and regulate other capacities and behaviours. They include the ability to initiate and stop actions, to monitor and change behaviour as needed, and to plan future behaviour when faced with novel tasks and situations. Executive functions allow us to anticipate outcomes and adapt to changing situations. Working memory is a key cognitive process that allows an individual to keep information in mind while using that information to solve a problem (e.g., remember and implement instructions while completing a task).
We have pooled our expertise to create a non-traditional, client-centered, platform of resources to assist people in optimizing their effectiveness at school, work and athletics. We see executive functioning as an ideal framework for understanding modifiable aspects of human performance. In particular, an individual’s working memory and his or her capacities to focus attention during problem-solving are core aspects of executive functioning.
